Tulsa Jammers

The Center’s Junior Wheelchair Sports (JWCS) program is the only one of its kind in the region, offering year-round competitive sports activities for youths with mobility impairments.  Players compete in wheelchair basketball tournaments and workshops.  Every summer the JWCS program participates in the Olympic-style annual Endeavor Games in Edmond, Oklahoma as well as other competitive events.

The Center’s Tulsa Jammers are a member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Youth Division and competes within the Southwest Conference. Center Rehabilitative Instructor Bradley Forbes coordinates the conference, which also includes teams from Albuquerque, Dallas, Edmond, Houston, Kansas City, Little Rock, St. Louis, and San Antonio. Each year all nine conference teams participate in the tournament and vie for an opportunity to play in the national championship held in March.

The goal of the program is to encourage these student athletes to make a commitment to an active lifestyle that will continue into adulthood.  Through their leadership and commitment to success both in competition and in their everyday lives, they can earn the chance to receive all-conference and national recognition for outstanding academic achievement; play in the NWBA Youth Division all-star competition; and earn scholarships from universities around the country.

The JWCS program is recruiting players with mobility impairments, ages 7-18, for the current season.  For information on how to become involved in these fun and exciting events, contact Bradley Forbes, at 584-8607.
